A consortium would be established for the development of an institute of excellence in science and biotechnology at the Bangalore University campus.

This was agreed to today by the Indian Space Research Organisation, Indian Institute of Science, Institute for Social and Economic Change, Raman Research Institute, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, National Aerospace Laboratories, Centre for Liquid Crystal Research, BEL Research Laboratory, National Centre for Biological Sciences, Central Manufacturing Technology Institute, Indian Veterinary Research Institute and Bangalore University.
The consortium unanimously agreed to pool infrastructure and faculty and to participate in various academic programmes to be started with launching of a BS course in Bangalore University. All consortium members agreed to the idea of starting a central instrumentation facility in the Bangalore university campus with state-of-the-art equipment, Bangalore University’s Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev said in a statement.
The facility is expected to cost Rs 20 crore. Equipment like electron microscope, DNA sequencer, NMR spectrometer and equipment for astrophysics and aerospace would be purchased for the new centre.
