Sail: Results in line with expectations
For the December 2009 quarter, SAIL saw net sales at Rs 9,880 crore up 11 per cent year-on-year, in line with market expectations, even as seasonal impact saw sales dip 2 per cent sequentially. The company’s steel sales was at 2.9 million tonnes (mt) in the recently concluded quarter against 3 mt in the September 2009 quarter and 2.4 mt in December 2008 quarter.

Sensex firm in opening trades

The Sensex opened at 17,365 tracking mixed global cues and then soared to a high of Rs 17,492. The index is now at 17,481,up 137 points. Among the Sensex 30- stocks, NTPC is the major gainer, up 3.5% at Rs 241. Tata Steel, Jaiprakash Associates and Reliance are the other prominent gainers on the Sensex, up 1% each at Rs 622, Rs 144 and Rs 1,089, respectively. Jan cement sales in high double-digit Maruti is the only marginal loser on the Sensex, down at Rs 1,568.
